Indonesian Quake

JAKARTA, Indonesia -- The death toll from a powerful earthquake that shook the island of Sulawesi has risen to 16, news reports said Monday.

Meteorological and Geophysics Agency seismologists confirmed Sunday's quake had a magnitude of 6.0.

The official Antara news agency said the quake killed eight people in coastal Pare Pare, 1,400 kilometers northeast of the capital, Jakarta. Another seven died in Pinrang and one in Sidhrap, both nearby towns.

Antara said 331 people were treated by hospitals. The number of serious injuries was not immediately available.
