Forbes Lists Show-Biz

WASHINGTON () -- With $313 million in 1996 to 1997, film director Steven Spielberg headed Forbes magazine's new list of top show business money makers.

Spielberg, who made bundles from his recent dinosaur flick "The Lost World," recaptured Forbes' first place, which he lost last year to talk show host Oprah Winfrey, who has dropped to third place with $201 million.

Second place on this year's list is film producer and director George Lucas, whose reissued "Star Wars" trilogy boosted his earnings last year to $241 million.

Michael Crichton, author of "Jurassic Park" and "The Lost World" which inspired Spielberg's productions, was fourth on the list with $102 million earned in 1996 to 1997.

The Beatles were a close fourth with $98 million, followed by humorist Jerry Seinfeld ($94 million), illusionist David Copperfield ($85 million), horror story writer Stephen King ($84 million -- 160 million books sold).

nActors Tom Cruise and Arnold Schwarzenegger came in ninth and tenth with $82 million and $74 million respectively.
