Security Chief Named

MOSCOW () -- The former commander of Russian peacekeepers in Bosnia was appointed the head of Russia's internal security troops, Russian news agencies reported Monday.

Colonel General Leonty Shevtsov will take over command of the Interior Ministry troops, Itar-Tass and Interfax said, citing ministry officials.

The force of some 200,000 men is responsible for internal security and did much of the fighting against separatist rebels in Chechnya.

Shevtsov replaces Colonel General Anatoly Shkirko, who commanded Russian forces during the Chechen war. He resigned last month for health reasons.
