Nuclear Plant Closed

KIEV () -- Ukraine, site of the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear plant disaster, closed down another of its nuclear centers following a fault in its cooling system, the ecology and nuclear ministry said.

The problem was uncovered a week ago during routine maintenance at the nuclear complex in Rivne, in the west of the country, spokesman Olexi Ananenko said Friday.

No radiation escaped when the cooling system failed, but technicians shut down the plant's three reactors when they failed to locate the cause of the fault.

It was classified a level one emergency using the seven-point scale of seriousness used by the International Nuclear Agency.
