Central Bank Audit Bid

MOSCOW () -- International auditors Coopers & Lybrand is the sole non-Russian company bidding to audit the Russian Central Bank's 1997 results, a State Duma official said Monday.

"This year, applications are mostly coming from Russian companies," Mozdukhov said. "I think this has to do with reports in the media that the Russian Duma is not inclined to choose a foreign firm as the Central Bank auditor," he said.

The commission, however, has not developed any "discriminatory terms" that would work against non-Russian firms, he said. All firms that apply before Sept. 1 will take part in the tender, he added.

He said consultations with the applicants would be held at the end of September. The Duma will discuss the candidates in October. A final decision will be made before Nov. 1 and the audit is to be completed in the spring of 1998.
