Budget by Decree

MINSK () -- Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko, in a decree published Friday, amended 1997 budget figures to bring them in line with higher than forecast revenue and expenditure.

The changes reflect an annualized actual inflation rate of 5.9 percent so far this year, above the 2 percent envisaged in the budget.

Revenues were raised to 62.5 trillion Belarussian rubles ($1.8 billion) from 36.6 trillion, and expenditures were nearly doubled to 72.6 trillion against 44.0 trillion rubles. The deficit was increased to 10.1 trillion from 7.45 trillion.

Revenue projections from privatization of state property and from foreign credits were revised downward in the decree.
