Abkhazia Claims Attack

MOSCOW () -- Georgia's breakaway province of Abkhazia has claimed Georgia was violating a 1994 cease-fire and preparing for an armed attack, Interfax reported. Officials of the province's security service issued a statement Monday saying a Georgian-controlled area in western Abkhazia's Kodor Gorge had been turned into ""the main support base"" for the Georgian security service. The service said that from this area groups were being sent inside Abkhazia to conduct acts of sabotage that have resulted in civilian casualties. ""The increased activity of saboteur and reconnaissance groups sent into the republic reflects the intention of Georgian special services to prepare a bridgehead for active hostilities,"" the statement read.
