Vietnam Fights Graft

HANOI, Vietnam -- Adding teeth to a major anti-graft campaign, Vietnam has decided to execute anyone receiving bribes worth $4,500 or more, official media reported Monday.

Other measures approved overwhelmingly Sunday by the National Assembly include two-year jail terms for taking as little as $45.

New amendments to the Criminal Code state that anyone convicted of corruption-related offenses -- including bribery or embezzlement -- will automatically go to jail. No leniency will be given to first-time offenders.
