UN's Annan to Moscow

MOSCOW -- United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan is due to arrive in Moscow on Wednesday for a five-day visit focusing on Russia's role in the world body and UN peacekeeping operations in former Soviet states.

Annan, on his first visit to Moscow since his appointment as secretary-general earlier this year, is scheduled to meet with President Boris Yeltsin, Prime Minister Viktor Chernomyrdin and Foreign Minister Yevgeny Primakov as well as top parliamentary deputies, a UN statement said.

UN activities in Russia and overall reform of the institution are also on the agenda, the statement said. Annan also will visit St. Petersburg before leaving Sunday.
