Nobelist Discharged From Hospital

Nobel laureate Alexander Solzhenitsyn has been discharged from the Moscow hospital where he underwent treatment for what doctors described as a minor heart attack, a spokeswoman said Monday.

"Alexander Isayevich is now feeling better and doctors considered his condition stable enough to let him recuperate at home,'' said Munira Razova, who heads Solzhenitsyn's Russian Public Foundation, a charity that helps former Soviet political prisoners.

She said Solzhenitsyn suffered a "myocardial microinfarction'' -- a medical term which means a minor heart attack -- but his life wasn't in danger.

The 78-year-old Solzhenitsyn entered the cardiac intensive care unit of Moscow's Central Clinical Hospital with heart trouble May 12 and was discharged over the weekend, Razova said.

The hospital has a tradition of tight secrecy and has refused to release any information about Solzhenitsyn.
