MF Urges Lithuania

VILNIUS, Lithuania -- The International Monetary Fund urged Lithuania's right-wing government Monday to accelerate a privatization program obstructed by Communists who held power until last November.

Government sources said they were now convinced, following talks with the IMF, that the fund would soon release a $30 million installment of a $200 million global loan allocated in 1994.

The head of the IMF mission to Lithuania, Giuseppe Berengaut, urged Prime Minister Gediminas Vagnorius "to speed up privatization of strategic companies," a government spokesman told journalists.
