MOSCOW () -- Life expectancy in Russia has slid to 135th place for men and 100th place for women in comparison to the rest of the world, Interfax said Monday.

Russian men live 15 to 17 years less than their Western European counterparts, the news agency quoted Yekaterina Lakhova, the chief of the Commission on Issues of Women, Family and Demography, as saying. Russian women live seven to 10 years less than those in Western Europe, she said.

Citing the State Statistics Committee, she said the maximum life span in Russia is 64.9 years for men and 74.6 years for women.
