Air Crash in India

NEW DELHI, India -- The Airports Authority of India, or AAI, on Tuesday blamed Kazakh Airlines for the world's worst mid-air collision when one of its planes collided with a Saudi Arabian Airlines Boeing 747.

N.A.K. Sarma, lawyer representing the AAI in a probe into the accident, said it occurred after the Kazakh Ilyushin Il-76 failed to maintain the height assigned to it by the air traffic control at New Delhi airport.

Kazakh Airlines' lawyer Duli Chand Singhania contended that air turbulence had caused the plane to lose height and led to the accident.
