SANAA, Yemen ) -- A Yemeni gunman was on Monday condemned to face a firing squad for killing a headmistress, a teacher and three children in an attack at two schools on Sunday.

Defendant Mohammad Ahmad Misleh appeared calm and said he wished to appeal the verdict. The prosecutor general said the appeal would be heard Tuesday.

The gunman himself sustained a leg wound in an exchange of fire with police after he shot an assault rifle at hundreds of students aged 6 to 18 as they lined up for morning classes at two neighboring schools in a middle class suburb of the Yemeni capital.
