SANTO DA SERRA, Madeira (x) -- A brilliant 130-yard wedge shot to within 1 foot at the final hole earned Peter Mitchell of Britain a one-stroke victory in the Madeira Island Open.


After Fredrik Jacobson of Sweden, 22, had completed an eight-under-par 64 to put the pressure on, Mitchell, 38, capped a nervous one-under-par 71 with his closing birdie to record his second European Tour victory Sunday.
