House Haunted by Hi-Tech Stalker Up for Sale

EMERYVILLE, Ontario -- The couple who claim their home has been invaded by a high-tech stalker called Sommy have put their three-bedroom house on the market.

"We just want to get out of here and start over somewhere else," said Debbie Tamai, whose family has been troubled by a stalker who taps into phone lines and turns power outlets off and on.

Jim Gammon, who sold the custom-built brick ranch house to the Tamais last fall, says the presence of Sommy won't necessarily deter potential buyers.

"There's a buyer for everything," Gammon said. "Who knows? Maybe some group will buy the home to see if they can find Sommy for themselves."

Debbie Tamai thinks Sommy rigged their modest, two-story house while it was being built last year, intending to torment whoever moved in.

After weeks of being courted by the media and having crowds drive by to gawk at their house, the family said they want to go back to living anonymously.

"We won't tell anyone where we're going," said Debbie Tamai. "I want to find a house that a nice older couple have been living in for the past 50 years without any problems."

Police, Bell Canada and Ontario Hydro investigators have failed to pinpoint the source of the trouble. One private expert who tried to uncover Sommy concluded he was manipulating the Tamais' house through underground cables or a Bell Canada wiring station.
