Harkin Gets New Post

MOSCOW () -- United Technologies has appointed Ruth Harkin, former president of the U.S. Overseas Private Investment Corporation, to be its next senior vice president for international affairs and government relations, the company said in a release Thursday.

Harkin, who was appointed to head OPIC by President Bill Clinton in 1993, will join United Technologies' office in Washington on June 1.

Since Harkin took office at OPIC, which offers financing and political risk insurance for ventures in developing countries, the agency has offered more than $3 billion in support to Russian projects. Among those was a $65 million political risk insurance policy for a United Technologies' Pratt & Whitney aircraft engine-making joint venture.
