NTV, MK Sling Mud In Shady Media War

MOST Media, one of Russia's biggest media groups, launched a stinging attack Wednesday at Moskovsky Komsomolets, Moscow's most popular daily newspaper, in a mysterious squabble that observers suggested had political overtones. Vladimir Gusinsky's MOST Media, which owns NTV television and a host of publications, took aim at Pavel Gusev, editor of the Moscow daily, which had in turn been mounting a campaign against MOST in its pages for the last week. MOST Group president Sergei Zverev released a statement through Interfax criticizing Gusev for the daily's attacks against his company, claiming Gusev was a MOST Media ""employee"" who would be fired for his actions and charging that Moskovsky Komsomolets owed MOST Media $1.5 million. The allegations were, however, wrapped up in dark allusions to political and underworld involvement.
