Hostage Deal Hope

LIMA, Peru () -- With reports that both sides are considering a deal to end Peru's 14-week-old hostage crisis, President Alberto Fujimori says Peruvians are hoping this Easter week that the 72 captives soon will be free.

Fujimori said Tuesday that Peru was committed to finding a "rational solution" to the crisis.

Fujimori's comments added to optimism in Peru -- shared by some foreign diplomats -- that an end may be near to the standoff that began when Tupac Amaru rebels seized the Japanese ambassador's residence Dec. 17.
