Blatter Praises Fowle

LONDON () -- Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler's sporting behavior in an English premier league game brought a letter of congratulation from Sepp Blatter, general secretary of the world governing body FIFA.

"Your reaction in the penalty incident ... did you great honor. It is the kind of reaction which helps maintain the dignity of the game," said Blatter.

Fowler tried unsuccessfully to convince the referee not to give a penalty after he went down in the box in the match against Arsenal.

Goalkeeper David Seaman then saved Fowler's poorly-struck penalty -- only for Jason McAteer to bang in the rebound. Liverpool went on to win 2-1.
