Russian Church Puts Its Orthodoxy Online

Want a blessing from Patriarch Alexy II of the Russian Orthodox Church? If you have an Internet connection, there's no need to join the crush of believers at long hours of church services. Just log on to Alexy blessed all the users of the ""official server"" when it opened recently to provide information, in Russian and soon in English, about the past and present of Russia's largest religious organization. ""We want to provide as much material as possible about the life of the church,"" said Deacon Alexander Boulekov, director of communications at the Moscow Patriarchate's Department of External Church Relations. Boulekov said the project was launched with help from the Orthodox Church in America and the New York Diocese of the Episcopal Church, with a donation from Archer Daniels Midland Co. The church's home page is part spiritual and part public relations.
