Turkish Referee to Jail?

ISTANBUL, Turkey -- Turkish club Besiktas has applied to an Istanbul court, demanding the three-year imprisonment of a referee for denying them a crucial penalty in their goalless draw against lowly Vanspor.

Club lawyer Necati Toker said Saturday that referee Metin Tokat had abused his job as an unbiased public worker in refusing to give Besiktas a penalty after a Vanspor player "clearly handled the ball in the penalty area" to block a Besiktas free kick.
