Soccer Club Seeks Gazprom's Help

Newly promoted Dinamo Gazovik said Thursday it was looking to Russian gas monopoly Gazprom, the world's largest supplier of natural gas, for financial help as it prepares for the new premier league season.

Alexander Kolosov, president of the club from the gas-producing region of Tyumen in western Siberia, said Gazprom was already helping install underground heating to enable it to play matches at home during cold weather.

But he said the club was hoping Gazprom and the Professional Football League would provide more help with building a new stadium. "Negotiations are under way," Kolosov said. "We hope Gazprom ... will take us under their wing."

Dinamo won the first division title last season but already has problems before the new season kicks off in mid-March. It is playing its first three games away because the underground heating is not ready.
