Seoul Official Arrested

SEOUL, South Korea () -- South Korean prosecutors arrested a former cabinet minister and two lawmakers Thursday over a loan scandal that has badly damaged the political credibility of President Kim Young-sam.

A prosecution official said Kim Woo-suk, who resigned Wednesday as home affairs minister, was put behind bars on charges of accepting bribes from the failed Hanbo Steel Co.

"The former minister was accused of accepting money in return for a request to pressure officials to build a road to a Hanbo steel mill," he said.
