Israeli Diplomats Visit Gulf States

JERUSALEM -- Two senior aides to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made secret visits to Oman and Qatar this week in a bid to revive normalization with the rich Gulf states, the Maariv newspaper reported Friday.

Officials confirmed that Dore Gold, Netanyahu's top foreign policy adviser, and the prime minister's intelligence aide Shimon Shapira were out of the country for 24 hours in midweek, but they declined to say where.

Maariv said the two men went to Qatar and Oman in hopes of arranging meetings between the two states' foreign ministers and Netanyahu this weekend on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
