ICRC Resumes Work

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan -- The International Committee of the Red Cross, or ICRC, said Tuesday it had resumed operations in the former Soviet republic of Tajikistan.

Earlier this month, the ICRC and some other foreign aid organizations suspended activities in the country, devastated by a four-year civil war, after several of their employees were taken hostage by one of several armed factions.

Two of the hostages, including a British national, were Red Cross employees.

On Tuesday, Interfax reported that the latest round of inter-Tajik talks will begin Wednesday in Moscow under the aegis of the United Nations.
