Gambling Belle

CLEVELAND, Ohio () -- Controversial baseball star Albert Belle admitted in a court deposition that he lost nearly $40,000 on sports gambling, though not on baseball games.

Belle signed a five-year, $55 million contract with the Chicago White Sox last November and has been working on improving his image after a history of suspensions and abusing fans and other players.

Belle made the admission in a lawsuit over a 1995 incident in which he chased a group of boys who hurled eggs at his house.
