Four to Die in Hanoi

HANOI, Vietnam -- A court in southern Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City on Friday sentenced four people to death at the end of the communist country's biggest corruption trial.

A court official said that one other defendant had been sentenced to life imprisonment.

Local journalists who attended the case said 15 other defendants were being punished with jail terms, but two of these were suspended.

The trial -- a showcase for Hanoi's anti-graft resolve -- centered around allegations of corruption at the Ho Chi Minh City firm Tamexco, a trading company connected to the Communist Party.
