Flu Kills 2 in St. Pete

MOSCOW -- A flu epidemic in Russia's second largest city has sickened 140,000 people, 80,000 of them children.

The St. Petersburg branch of Russia's Epidemics Committee told Interfax that two people have died of the disease since the outbreak began in the city Jan. 13. The number of new cases is growing and expected to reach 18,000 a day by next week, the committee said.

The outbreak is so severe that 13 of St. Petersburg's 500 schools have been closed, and hospitals are separating new flu victims from other patients.
