Cult Murder Described

TOKYO () -- A former member of the doomsday cult accused in the gas attack on the Tokyo subway testified Thursday that cult leader Shoko Asahara also ordered the 1989 murders of an anti-cult lawyer and his family.

The session at the Tokyo District Court was the first to hear testimony against Asahara.

The former high-ranking Aum disciple, Kazuaki Okazaki, said Asahara ordered the followers to "poa" the lawyer. "[Poa] meant to separate his soul from his body," he said. "It meant to kill him."

Asahara immediately disputed the testimony, calling out loudly to Okazaki, "You're not supposed to tell lies."
