11 Dead in Train Crash

CAIRO, Egypt -- A cargo train slammed into a passenger train near the southern Egyptian tourist town of Edfu on Monday, killing 11 people and injuring 10 others, security sources said.

They said the passenger train, traveling from the Mediterranean city of Alexandria to the southern resort of Aswan, was stopped at the Radissiyah station when the cargo train rammed into it from behind.

Radissiyah is about 600 kilometers south of Cairo.

The sources said a railway worker had given the cargo train the go-ahead even though the passenger train had not yet pulled out of the station.
