Premier Endorses Uzbek Accords

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan -- Prime Minister Viktor Chernomyrdin said at a news conference in Tashkent on Tuesday that he was satisfied with the results of his visit to Uzbekistan.

He said that Tuesday morning he gave Karimov a message from Yeltsin, and he and Karimov had discussed the issues that are to appear on the agenda of the Russian-Uzbek summit.

Chernomyrdin's visit ended with the signing of a package of agreements broadening mutually advantageous cooperation between the two countries, including intergovernmental agreements on the encouragement and mutual protection of investments and on scientific and technical cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy.

Agreements were also signed on cooperation in combating illegal financial transactions and money laundering and on the joint exploration and utilization of outer space on the basis of measuring complexes located near the towns of Kitab and Maidanak in the Kashkadarya region in southern Uzbekistan.
