IMF Tranche Expected

NEW YORK -- Russian Deputy Finance Minister Mikhail Kasyanov on Tuesday said the International Monetary Fund would likely release the next installment of a stalled loan early next year.

Kasyanov told investors at the Emerging Markets Traders Association annual meeting in New York that Russia had worked hard to boost revenues and improve tax collection. "In view of these measures, the IMF will resume disbursement in early 1998," he said.

The IMF suspended a $700 million tranche of Russia's Extended Fund Facility in October because of the country's poor tax collection.
