Foreign Trade Up

MOSCOW -- The reduction of Russia's foreign trade turnover in the first half of 1997 has been reversed in the second half of the year, the Trade Ministry said Tuesday.

From January to October, the volume of Russia's foreign trade was $110.8 billion, a 0.8 percent growth from 1996. From January to August it shrank by 1.2 percent. Economists in the ministry attribute the growth to increased imports from outside the Commonwealth of Independent States and to increased export to CIS member nations.
