VILNIUS, Lithuania -- An 89-year-old Lithuanian accused of Nazi war crimes has been indicted for genocide during World War II, a news agency reported Thursday.

According to the Baltic News Service, Lithuanian Prosecutor General Kazys Pednycia has filed criminal charges against Kazys Gimzauskas, who served in the Vilnius regional security police during the Nazi occupation of Lithuania.

He is suspected of having been behind the arrest, imprisonment and deportation to concentration camps.

Lithuania's Jewish community, which once numbered over 200,000, was almost entirely destroyed during WWII. No accused Nazi war criminals has been tried in Lithuania.
