N.Y. Police Decried

MOSCOW -- Russia's Foreign Ministry lashed out against New York City on Tuesday, saying it was indignant at the way the city's police officers treated Moscow's ambassador to the United Nations.

Spokesman Gennady Tarasov said police blocked the car of Russia's ambassador to the United Nations, Sergei Lavrov, as he was heading to the Security Council on Friday. After an argument, a policeman grabbed the keys of the driver, he said.

Moscow has been engaged in a running war of words with New York City officials, who complain that Russian diplomats brazenly violate traffic and parking rules.
