Lithuania Nazi Appeal

RIGA, Latvia -- A letter from 30 members of the U.S. Congress has been sent to Lithuanian President Algirdas Brazauskas urging him to stand by a pledge to put alleged war criminals on trial, war crimes investigators said Thursday.

"Despite explicit promises made to the Israeli Knesset in March 1995 that Nazi war criminals living in Lithuania would be prosecuted 'publicly, consistently and conscientiously' hardly any of these perpetrators of the Holocaust have ever been indicted, let alone put on trial," the letter said.

Several alleged war criminals live in Lithuania, some of whom returned home after being deported from the U.S.
