Kremlin Seeds Crash

MOSCOW -- Seeded players fell fast and furious on the first day of the men's Kremlin Cup in Moscow.

Fifth seed Spaniard Felix Mantilla crashed to Jan Kroslak of Slovakia 5-7, 6-7 (3-7), eighth seed Nicolas Kiefer of Germany went down 5-7, 3-6 to Alex O'Brien of the United States, and seventh-seed Fabrice Santoro was beaten 2-6, 6-2, 3-6 by Armenia's Sargis Sargsian.

Fourth-seeded French Open champion Gustavo Kuerten of Brazil was the exception, but he had to fight hard to survive a tough three-set clash with Sjeng Schalken of the Netherlands.

Meanwhile, Greg Rusedski became the first British player ever to qualify for the season-ending ATP Championships which open in Hannover next week.

He defeated first-round opponent Nicklas Kulti of Sweden in straight-sets in the first round of the Stockholm Open.
