3 Fishermen Drown

n MOSCOW -- Three fishermen fell through thin ice and drowned when they went ice fishing during an early spell of frosty weather in central Russia, Itar-Tass reported Tuesday.

Residents of the village of Andreyevskoye in the central Vladimir region, some 200 kilometers east of Moscow, saw one fishermen fall into a lake. His two companions tried to rescue him but also fell into the water.

Local people who heard their cries for help didn't risk going on the ice, Itar-Tass said.

In another fishing accident, in the Astrakhan region of southern Russia, a man died Tuesday when dynamite intended to kill fish exploded in a boat. His partner survived the explosion but had his legs amputated at a local hospital.
