U.S. Aid to Tajikistan

ALMATY, Kazakhstan The United States will continue delivering aid to war-ravaged Tajikistan, allotting a total of $35 million this year, a senior official from the U.S. Embassy in the ex-Soviet state said Wednesday.

"Over the last four years, the U.S. government has granted Tajikistan $150 million as humanitarian aid," the official said. "Another $35 million was allotted for the Tajik government this year."

The official said the money would be spent to deliver food to the nation's impoverished population and support nongovernment organizations.
