Istanbul Market Bullish

ISTANBUL, Turkey -- Istanbul shares broke new records Tuesday, following a six-week bull run that has pushed the market up around 60 percent on the strength of the conservative government's optimistic economic predictions.

The IMKB National-100 index rocketed up 6.23 percent to 3,238 points by mid-afternoon.

The index had reached a new high of 3,184 points at Tuesday's midday close, up 4.46 percent, or 136 points, from Monday's all-time high close of 3,048.

The surge in stocks has been fueled by positive economic outlook and confidence in the economic policies of Prime Minister Mesut Yilmaz's three-month-old coalition.
