Sharansky to Return

JERUSALEM () -- Former Soviet Jewish dissident Natan Sharansky goes to Russia this month as Israeli trade minister, returning for the first time since he was freed in a 1986 East-West prisoner swap, an official said Thursday.

He postponed a scheduled visit last November after the sudden death of his wife's brother.

Sharansky, 48, arrives in Moscow on Jan. 26 along with about 50 businessmen for a five-day visit aimed at boosting commercial ties between the two countries, ministry spokeswoman Haya Peri said.

He would meet Russian officials and old friends.

But an Israeli spokesman said it was unclear whether Sharansky would visit his old prison.
