Cyclone Kills 50

ANTANANARIVO, Madagascar (Reuters) -- Rescue workers found some 50 bodies in cyclone-hit southern Madagascar, and hunger threatened an estimated 60,000 people sleeping in the open, state radio said Thursday.

It said the 50 dead were recovered in destroyed homes, under fallen trees and from swollen rivers in the previous 24 hours in Vangaindrano, and rescue workers believed more would be found.

The radio had estimated 100 people were missing since Cyclone Gretelle battered Madagascar last Friday and Saturday. "Starvation above all threatens the victims," said the radio of the homeless.
