Cargo Ship Crashes

SEVASTOPOL, Ukraine () -- A group of Russian sailors was stuck in a Sevastopol bay on a ship with the corpse of their warrant officer Thursday after stormy weather tossed the boat into a bank of rocks.

The Russian cargo ship Voskresensk had anchored outside this port city on Ukraine's Crimean peninsula and was awaiting permission from Ukrainian border guards to dock in Sevastopol.

On Wednesday, fierce winds blew the ship onto underwater rocks, piercing a hole near the engine and spewing 10 tons of fuel into the Black Sea. The crew later discovered the body of the warrant officer in his cabin. It was unclear whether he died before or after the accident. Emergency officials said he probably committed suicide, and an investigation was under way.
