Workers Demand Pay

MOSCOW () -- About 15,000 workers at Russia's largest maker of commercial aircraft blocked streets in Ulyanovsk on Monday to demand four months of back wages.

The workers of the Aviastar company blocked a bridge over the Volga River in the city 720 kilometers east of Moscow, but there was no violence, Interfax reported.

Aviastar director Viktor Mikhailov told Interfax that the company is behind in its wage payments since April by 273 billion rubles ($51.5 million). Aviastar makes the Tupolev 204, similar to the Boeing 757, and the Antonov 124 military transport plane.
