U.S. Estonia Aid to End

MOSCOW () -- The U.S. Agency for International Development is ending its assistance program for Estonia, saying the Baltic republic had succeeded in establishing close economic links with the West and restoring democracy.

A report released in Tallinn and quoted by Interfax said Estonia was the first country in Central and Eastern Europe to stop receiving humanitarian and food relief from the United States.

Estonia received more than $30 million in aid from September 1991 through March 1996.
