Underwriting Tyumen

TYUMEN, Western Siberia () -- The Tyumen region's 67 insurance companies collected 470 billion rubles ($87.2 million) in premiums in the first half of 1996 and paid out 384 billion rubles, a representative of the state insurance supervisor said Tuesday.

Leonid Yanin said 11 branches of ASKO, Russia's biggest private insurance company, accounted for 19 percent of all premiums.

The Central Bank stressed that Agrobanka is sound, but that it was acting to protect it against a loss of confidence.
