Springboks Down All Blacks

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa -- Joost van der Westhuizen scored a try in each half to lead South Africa to a dominating 32-22 victory over New Zealand on Saturday, ending its four-game losing streak against the All Blacks and salvaging the final match of the three-test series.

With Van der Westhuizen's tries, another by fullback Andre Joubert and a trio of penalties by Joubert, the Springboks led 32-8 midway through the second half, restoring some pride to the World Cup champion side.

South Africa lost twice to the All Blacks in the Tri-Nations tournament in July and August, then dropped two tests to New Zealand, giving New Zealand its first test-series victory. Saturday's victory at Ellis Park was a mix of "delight and relief'' for Gary Teichmann, who won his first match as captain of the Springboks.
