Irish March Peacefully

BELFAST () -- Northern Ireland's turbulent "marching season" reached a peaceful conclusion when tens of thousands of Protestants paraded without incident in the divided province.

Members of the Royal Black Institution, a church-based Protestant order, held parades Saturday in several communities, and no violent incidents were reported, police said.

Saturday's events were in stark contrast to July marches by the Protestant Orange Order which sparked the worst violence in the province for years and violent opposition from members of its 40-percent Roman Catholic minority.
