IMF Team Arrives After Tranche Nod

A team of experts from the International Monetary Fund, which has approved the latest $350 million loan tranche for Russia, arrived in Moscow on Monday for its regular monthly review of the Russian economy, chief representative Thomas Wolf said.

But Wolf said the mission, which is reviewing figures from the end of August, was likely to stay just a few days.

Issues which could not be dealt with this week may be discussed at the annual IMF meeting, due to take place in Washington in early October, he added.

The IMF has backed Russia's economic reforms with a $10 billion three-year loan. It delayed one loan tranche during the summer because of concern about lower than forecast tax revenues, but handed the money over last month.

The IMF board approved the disbursal of another $350 million tranche to Russia last Friday and said Russian reforms were still on track.

A spokesman said the Fund was pleased that Moscow was pushing ahead with structural economic reforms.
